In every day life stress is hard to avoid. It is true that the majority of my patients are suffering from stress due to hair related issues.
Lets go back to the beginning.
Your hair looks fabulous, You know this is true. Your think so, your friends think so, even your stylist comments on how wonderfully thick and lustrous it is.
Then, as if you hair has been tainted by an evil spell. It has lost its lustre, is falling out in clumps, you have reduced the frequency of your shampoo regime, stopped colouring it and now have stopped visiting your favourite stylist. Arrrhh!
Well the good news is this could all be due to your stress load.
As our lives become busier, we all start to take our hair for granted. It gets styled abused and treated as if no amount of damage could ever make a difference to our locks. This is not true. Good hairdressing practice is very important as is good nutrition and diet.
The one aspect of hair care is stress management. I know this sounds stupid, but when we are stressed our daily good habits start to drift.
By good habits I mean taking time to care for ourselves. Time with nature, walking, doing activities with others. Resting, relaxing, loving our self.
When was the last time you stopped...........
Did you fully disconnect from your hyper alert state of readiness???
I recognise in my patients that the majority are often no longer thriving. The are barely surviving with their daily level self induced stress and anxiety.
The gut brain axis is often a good start point. Having a better understanding of your hairs high demand of good quality nutrients and protein will enable you to select a better diet. The importance of feeding your gut to enable the better absorption of nutrients is often the best place to start.
Hair cells are one of the fastest growing cells in the body. They require a lot of energy for good quality hair fibres to be produced. If the body is not properly nourished, then the hair growth cycle will abort some hairs to send this energy to other organs in the body such as the heart, liver, kidneys.
The impact of stress often results in the bad nutrition choices or skipping meals.
If you eat well at least 3 good meals a day with lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, good fats, and quality carbohydrates then your stress load will be reduced.
Why worry?
If you are a bit of a worrier then here is a little tip. Only focus on things you have control over. Spend a little time on things you can influence. Do not waste energy on things you do not control or have an influence over! There see, that's got your load reduced by 30%.
There are many brilliant tools for helping with stress and anxiety. The worry tree is an excellent start point.
